Affiliate Disclosure

This page explains the commercial relationships behind content and recommendations on Passings. We believe you have a right to know when we have a financial stake in what we link to.

Short version: Passings earns revenue in two ways — affiliate commissions when you purchase from a linked third-party service, and fees paid by providers in our marketplace, which take the form of a per-lead fee, a flat subscription, or both depending on the category. Some categories, including hospice and palliative care and organ and body donation, are listed free of charge and pay us nothing at all. What a provider pays never affects the order in which organic results are presented. Families are never charged to submit a quote request.

FTC disclosure

This disclosure is provided in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's guidelines on endorsements and testimonials (16 CFR Part 255). When Passings links to a third-party product or service and earns a commission if you purchase, that link is an affiliate link and we are required to disclose the relationship.

Passings does not rank, match, or recommend providers or merchants. Affiliate merchants are selected against written criteria applied uniformly; placement is never sold, and commission rates play no part in selection or ordering.

Third-party affiliate links

Passings may partner with third-party retailers and end-of-life service businesses. When you access one of these businesses through a link on our platform, Passings may receive a commission or referral fee from the third party at no additional cost to you.

Current or planned affiliate relationships may include:

Online memorial goods retailers (e.g., urns, caskets, memorial products)
Prepared-meal and sympathy-gift merchants
Pet-care service marketplaces
Affiliate programs operated by marketplace Providers (in permitted categories only)

Passings does not enter into affiliate or commission arrangements with providers of legal services. We do not accept a commission, referral fee, or any other payment in exchange for directing you to a lawyer, a law firm, or an online legal-document service.

Affiliate links on the platform are clearly distinguished from organic content wherever technically feasible. When you hover over or navigate to an external link tied to an affiliate relationship, the destination URL is always visible.

Provider marketplace — how fees work

Passings operates a marketplace connecting families with local service providers (funeral homes, cemeteries, grief counselors, memorial goods sellers, and others). The commercial model for this marketplace is:

Providers pay a per-lead fee when a family submits a quote request and their contact information is released to the provider. The fee varies by service category and is disclosed to providers in their onboarding agreement.
Some providers pay a flat monthly subscription instead — attorneys and mental-health professionals are billed this way rather than per lead, and providers in other categories may choose a subscription that includes leads. A subscription buys a listing and, where it applies, the leads in that category. It does not affect the order in which providers appear, and it does not change with whether you contact anyone.
Some categories pay nothing — hospice and palliative care, organ and tissue donation, and whole-body donation programs are carried free of charge and cannot be charged for a referral. We are not paid for an introduction to a provider in one of those categories.
Families pay nothing to submit a quote request, view provider profiles, or receive a response. There is no charge at any point in the family-facing quote flow.
Featured placement is a paid tier — providers who appear at the top of search results have purchased a featured listing. All featured providers are labeled as such in the marketplace UI.

What this means for recommendations

The presence of an affiliate relationship or a paid listing does not mean we endorse a provider or service unconditionally. All providers in the Passings marketplace are subject to our Trust & Safety standards regardless of whether they hold a paid tier.

For third-party affiliate services, we exercise independent editorial judgment. We do not feature a service solely because it pays us a commission.

Your choices

You can use Passings without clicking any affiliate link or submitting a quote request. The core planning tool — checklist, document vault, collaborators — is free and requires no commercial interaction.
