Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

Passings targets conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities.

We treat accessibility as an ongoing practice, not a one-time audit. Every new feature we build is reviewed against the WCAG 2.1 AA criteria and our internal accessibility checklist before it ships.

Technical measures

We apply the following measures to support accessibility across both the marketing site (passings.io) and the planning application (app.passings.io):

• All interactive elements meet a minimum touch target of 44×44px (WCAG 2.5.5)
• Color contrast meets WCAG AA thresholds — primary body text targets a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1; large text at least 3:1
• Color is never the sole means of conveying information (WCAG 1.4.1)
• All form inputs include associated label elements; error messages use role="alert" for screen reader announcement
• Toggle controls (filters, view switches, expand/collapse) use aria-pressed or aria-expanded to communicate state
• Icon-only buttons carry descriptive aria-label text
• The application fully supports keyboard navigation — all interactive elements are reachable via Tab, and focus indicators are visible throughout the application
• Animations respect prefers-reduced-motion — all motion-based reveals and transitions are disabled or reduced for users who have set this preference
• Content is structured with semantic HTML heading hierarchy (h1 → h2 → h3) and landmark regions (main, nav, footer)
• A skip-to-main-content link is provided at the top of every page for keyboard and screen reader users
• Language is declared on every page (lang="en" on the html element)

Known limitations

While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, some areas are still being improved:

• Budget Estimator charts are visual; text alternatives for the underlying data are provided.
• The provider-search map is not fully accessible to screen readers; an equivalent list view is available.
• Payments are processed through Stripe Checkout, a third-party service whose accessibility we do not control.
• Video calling is not yet available.
• Audio and video messages in the Legacy Locker do not yet include transcripts; we are evaluating transcript support.

Assistive technology compatibility

Passings is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

• Screen readers: NVDA + Firefox, JAWS + Chrome, VoiceOver + Safari (macOS and iOS)
• Keyboard-only navigation (all major browsers)
• 200% browser zoom without loss of content or functionality
• Windows High Contrast mode

Formal complaints

If you are not satisfied with our response to an accessibility issue, you may contact the relevant national accessibility authority in your jurisdiction. In the United States, this includes the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, which enforces the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
