Help & FAQ

Questions families ask most.

Getting started

Most people set up their core plan in under 10 minutes. You can always come back and add more detail over time — your plan is always a work in progress.

Passings helps you organize your wishes and important documents, but it is not a substitute for a legal will or estate plan. Our Family plan includes templates to help you get started with an attorney.

All data is encrypted at rest and in transit using AES-256 encryption. You control exactly who has access to your plan — nothing is shared without your explicit action.

There is no checklist you have to complete in one sitting. Start with whatever feels manageable — even one section — and return whenever you’re ready. Your plan saves automatically and waits for you.

Privacy & access

Only the people you explicitly invite. You control access at every level — you can share the full plan, specific sections, or nothing at all until you’re ready.

Anyone you’ve invited will receive a notification and can log in to view your plan. You can also designate a trusted person to be notified when access is most critical. Everything is there, organized and ready.

Your designated trusted contacts receive access to the sections you’ve shared with them. They can view your instructions, locate your documents, and contact any providers you’ve listed — exactly when it matters most.

Yes. Many people come to Passings after a loss, to make sure their own family never faces the same uncertainty. You can begin a plan for yourself at any time — there’s no wrong moment to start.

Plans & pricing

Yes — no credit card required. The free plan includes your core planning checklist (first 25 tasks), basic document storage, and essential features. Upgrade to Planner Pro or Premium whenever you’re ready.

Starting in Year 2, Planner Pro renews at $39/yr and Planner Premium at $49/yr. This keeps your documents securely stored and includes an annual plan review reminder. Think of it like a safety deposit box — you’re paying for ongoing safekeeping, not a subscription to the planning tools you already own.

If you choose not to renew, you lose access to document storage and AI features, but your plan information remains accessible. You can renew at any time to restore full access, or request a full export and deletion of your data.

Yes, anytime. Your existing progress carries over — you won’t need to start over. You only pay a one-time price.

If you’re not fully set up within 30 days of purchase, we’ll personally help you complete your plan at no extra cost. Our goal is for you to feel organized and at peace — not just to take your money.
