Our story

A simple question.
No good answer. So we built one.

Passings began one night with a question that refused to go away: what happens to the people I love if I’m gone unexpectedly? Having never navigated the end-of-life process before, a quick search revealed a surprising gap — there were no truly good solutions designed for families.

The platform was built to solve that problem directly: a place where the pain and inefficiency of preparing for the end could be handled up front, so families have one less thing to worry about when it matters most. The idea began as a sketch in a spiral notebook. What you see today is what it grew into.

    The notebook idea
    A simple question — why is end-of-life planning so unnecessarily hard? — gets sketched out and refuses to go away.
  2. 2024–2026
    Planning, preparation, building
    Two-plus years of research, conversations with funeral homes and estate attorneys, legal review, and quietly building the platform.
  3. 2026
    Passings launches
    The platform goes live. A guided, secure, human end-of-life planning solution — built for families, not paperwork.
  4. Ongoing
    Still building
    Every feature added is guided by the same principle: remove one more logistical burden from the hardest moment.
Letter from the founder

Hello,

Passings began one night while I was lying in bed, unable to sleep. I had asked myself a question I hadn’t thought through before: what do I do when my parents die?

Then a harder question followed. What would they do if I died first?

I was more worried about the second scenario — dying unexpectedly and leaving the people I love to navigate this process on my behalf, with nowhere to begin. I had never been through it myself. When I looked for tools that could actually help, I found nothing worth trusting.

So I built one.

I developed this platform so the pain and inefficiency of preparing for the end could be handled up front — giving families one less thing to worry about when the moment arrives. I’ve never taken outside investment to build it, and I don’t intend to. Every decision I make is for our users — no one else.

The idea was born on a spiral notebook in my bed, in the middle of the night. What you see on your screen is what it has grown into. I hope it gives you a sense of control during a time when you feel like you might have none.
